Two against one

Flying solo at bedtime is challenging.

- Leo is in tubby-time while Elena is nursing.

- Elena is screaming in her crib while Leo is screaming for help to get out of the tub.

- Leo is running around naked while I am frantically searching for Elena's pacifier.

Chaos.

Last night, while I was caught up in the middle of the tornado, I made a quick judgment call.  I asked Leo to sit in his bed with some books and wait for me to finish feeding Elena.  I locked myself in her room so that we would not be interrupted.  I fully expected him to freak out that he could not come in Elena's room and dance for us (his favorite bedtime activity).  However, after about 5-10 minutes of silence, I rush back into Leo's room to find this:

Oh how cute can it get?!

Sometimes when I'm not sure I'm going to make it to the end of the day, he throws me a bone :)

The magical tiger hat

We made a quick trip to Michael's this weekend to do some crafty stuff.  We found this sweet tiger hat on clearance.

It's a magical hat too.  As soon as you put it on, you instantly tranform into the beast.

You possess the quickest senses to alert you to immediate danger.

Your speed is rivaled by none.

You are immediately able to trap and capture your prey.

Your fine motor skills and dexterity improve instantly.

You are able to unpack and declutter like no ones business.

And...

...most importantly...

you are able to blend into the background of life undetected by even the sharpest eyes.

Some things never change

Now that was cutting it close!

I almost spent money at Rite Aid today!!  Phew!

They were out of the Butt Paste I needed for Elena that was on sale for $1.00 (after coupons) so we had to improvise.  In order to use my $5.00 off $25.00 coupon, I needed a few more dollars.  Jason found me some sunglasses on sale for 50% off PLUS a $5.00 rebate.  Ta-Da!!  (Rite Aid also issued me a "Raincheck" to use for the Butt Paste when they have it in stock again!!)

So, I got all this:

for $7.82.  I will submit my rebates for $4.00 for the paints and $5.00 for the sunglasses.  This means I was paid (yet again) by Rite Aid to shop there today.  And I scored a nifty new pair of sunglasses...for Leo to break.

Total breakdown:
Cost before sales/coupons = $51.05
Savings from sales = $21.83
Savings from coupons = $22.00
Savings from rebates = $9.00
Total cost out of pocket = $7.82

I earned $1.18!!

The best kind of Saturday morning

Coffee, Skype, family.

We may have relatives thousands of miles away in the country of Texas, but with a little coffee and a good broadband connection, we can still have a relaxing Saturday morning together!!!  Saturday morning, we were greeted by the ringing of our computer and an early morning visit with Jason's brother, his lovely wife and their gorgeous daughter Iris.  Leo loves seeing his relatives on the screen.

While Iris put on a costume show ranging from a Disney princess to the wicked witch (complete with an AWESOME pair of high heels!!), Leo showed off Elmo's dancing skills.  (Sidenote: He is now at the age where Elmo is a human being.  He first asked Elmo if he wanted to do a "big jump" before he jumped Elmo through the air.)

Leo also was able to show off his sweet new pair of homemade binoculars.  (He doesn't realize yet that they're not really that cool.  And while he doesn't notice, we are going to keep our hard-earned money in the bank and continue to tape pieces of cardboard together!!)

We miss you guys and wish you all were here with us!!

A really quick note about Leo's major milestone.  Being able to catch your kid stuck in imaginationland is SOOO fun!!  Over the last week, I have noticed major changes in his independent play.  Rather than needing me to play with him, he is able to run around the house as busy as ever.  Today though, I heard very quiet whispers behind my head and I turned around to look on the couch and caught this:

I also caught him reading a book and assigning "personhood" to everyone (there was a Dada, momma, Leo and "eL":

I know he's not curing cancer or anything, but seeing your kid doing anything for the first time is so fun!!  (Unless it's throwing rocks, running into the street, drawing on their sibling's face with permanent markers, grabbing snowglobes from the bottom shelf at Target, etc. etc....you get the idea.)

Shhh...We'wre hunting pacifierws!!

Be vewy vewy quiet!!  I'm hunting pacifierws!!

Euweka! Pacifierws at wast!

AND all of the remotes, Elena's blanket, Leo's monster truck...

I'm not going to tell Leo I've found his hiding place.  I'm just going to remember to look here before I scour the house top-to-bottom trying to find pacifiers at bedtime for Elena.  I even found the baby Jesus to our Nativity set hidden back there...8 months later...

And if he finds a new hiding place for her pacifiers, this will just have to do...

We fell into the Taco Ring of Deliciousness!!

I cannot sing its praises enough.  Have you tried the Taco Ring?

A day at the park

The weather has been beyond gorgeous the last few days.  We have been enjoying it as much as possible!!

Leo's picking up speed and blowing Elena away!

WHEEEEEE!!!

These pictures are very telling.  Elena WILL spend the next few years looking over her shoulder to make sure Leo isn't running up behind her to give her a noogie.

Sometimes I try to sell this as a ride so they'll be excited about sitting in it...but my kids are just not that dumb.  They're not buying it.
