Irrationality. Driving husbands insane since...

So there is a commercial that plays on blasted repeat on hulu.com.  It's a Walgreens commercial and it annoys me.  Not as much as the Hot Mess Jack in the Box commercial.  That one infuriates me.  And the two of them play during every.single.commercial break.

The Walgreens commercial annoys me for a couple reasons.

First - the narrators voice.  He is just too happy.  He sounds like a volkwagen-minivan-driving-hippie.
Second - The "dad's" legs are so bow-legged, I barely notice the kids.  Is this the new "look".  Was he a model and his legs were his ticket to fame?  Why do they zoom so closely to his legs??

But mostly I am just annoyed that this commercial has been overplayed.  And apparently, I'm not alone!  Look at how many people are so emotionally invested in their commercials that they took the time out to VOTE!  (I'm one to talk....)

Anyway, for the last year, I have been adamant that I am so scared for the next pregnancy to come "too soon".  I might die.  I have made this known to Jason, Oh, let's say maybe 5 million times????

I can't stress enough how not ready for another I am.

Then why, after seeing this commercial 3,000 times, did I yell this after seeing this part of it for the 3,001th time: "Okay, I know this sounds insane, but I just got an uncontrollable urge to have a baby.  Not a pregnancy though!  Just a tiny little baby laying in between us in the bed.  Right now though.  I want one."

Jason announced, "You have completely lost your mind" and went to sleep.

  1. I'm laughing out loud for realzeez! That's hilarious!!!! Your experience reminds me of me; I wasn't ready to have a second baby, then all a sudden Julian was covering Roman with adorable kisses at our old apartment. ;) Then my brother and sister-in-law had a baby, and before you know it EXACTLY 9 months after my nephew was born Ignatius came into the world. Coincidence? Not likely!

    Great post!

  2. You know what I hate even more than the voice over and the bow legs (which I do hate, to be clear)? I hate that this commercial perpetuates the "Fathers are idiots" meme that the culture insists on shoving! down! our throats!

Watch it again. The bumbling father can't figure out how the car seats go in, thank goodness for the competent mother! The idiot dad can't remember the name of the medication, thank goodness for the technologically-savvy mom! There's Daddy, grinning like a drunk ape in the birthday picture, and there's Mommy, condescendingly hanging his picture on the refrigerator.

I hate it I hate it I hate it. Why are women scared to commit to men? Because they're afraid that the men will never grow up and will remain "The Bachelor Party" characters forever. And why do men think that staying like this is ok? Because they've been told a million bazillion times in ways both subtle and overt, that the culture will not respect them as a husband or a father, so they may as well stay immature forever, to avoid the ridicule awaiting them.

    It's demonic.

Oh, and I know what you mean about wanting a little baby again. But not the pregnancy.

  4. I was just about to tweet a message about that bowlegged-dad Walgreens commercial and decided to see if anyone else had posted anything about it. I can't help wondering if the ad agency went looking for a bowlegged model. Why else would they keep that image for the commercial? Strange...
