Here we go!

Fat Tuesday???  TODAY????  Who knew??

Certainly not me.  Not until Bible Study this morning when they started passing out Mardi Gras beads.

I made it until dinner when I just thought Oh hellz naw.  This isn't going to work at all:

  • Banana
  • Whole Wheat Dutch Baby Pancake
  • Cheese/Crackers
  • Smoothie
  • Butternut Squash Soup

Do any of those items look anything like a proper feast for Fat Tuesday?????

So I had a panic attack when I realized that I'm attempting to give up chocolate this Lent.  I'm sweating just thinking about it.  And the sweat beads look like tiny chocolate chips.  And they send me into a complete tailspin...

Okay - so clearly I have issues and neeeeeeed Lent as a time for introspection and prayerful purgation.  But today? Today is Fat Tuesday.

I set out to make something chocolatey for dessert tonight.  I had a huge bounty of sourdough starter and thought I might as well some of it up in the dessert.  Don't these look fun???

Well they are NOT fun!!!!

Blegh.  Gag.  Vomit.

Not even a frosting of cocoa powder, honey, cream cheese, butter and vanilla extract could save this crap.  And I ended up with 6 muffins AND this crappy cake.

Is the smell of blackstrap molasses hitting you from here?  Back up or you might gag.  Seriously.

So, now, I am mere hours away from 40 painful chocolate-free days.  It isn't going to be easy.  But I'm going to come out on the other side just fine.  For 40 days, each time the word "chocolate" goes through my head, I'm going to redirect and reflect on Christ.  And hopefully not take out my frustrations at the lack of chocolate on my family...

I'm going to go forget about the food flop with chocolate chips and boxed red wine.

Happy Fat Tuesday everyone and have a wonderful Lenten season!!!

  2. You can feast on Sundays during Lent if you are a real Catholic.

  3. my red wine exploded in the fridge last night. took an hour to clean this morning. I think I deserve some chocolate... BUT chocolate on Ash Wednesday seems wrong even if I'm not giving it up!
... I totally ate chocolate chips last nihgt, too while facebooking until bedtime. :)

  5. Too funny . . .

I made some disastrous foods with blackstrap molasses. It was so bad that the rest of the bottle sat in our pamtry for years before I finally threw it out!

And, I agree with Colleen . . . Sundays are not a part of Lent, so feast it up!
