Glutton for punishment???

Or eternal optimist!!

Here's the deal.  I could either purchase 3 individual packets of yeast (.75 oz) for $1.50

OR, thanks to Cotsco

2 POUNDS of yeast for $3.50.  I have already put 5 teaspoons of it to good use trying my hand at the dinner rolls again.  We'll see what comes of it.  Leo used his magical powers to infuse the dough with the ability to rise.

I also go through a 5 lb bag of flour once a week.  So we got the big boy bag!!  Wish me luck!!

  1. Oh that is so awesome!!! Good luck on your bread-baking adventures; it's so much fun, isn't it? Despite the fact I've been doing it for a while now, I still get a thrill every time my dough "doubles" or a loaf comes out beautifully.

I did not know you could get Active Dry Yeast from Costco for $3.50. I've only ever seen bulk packages of instant yeast (which I don't like as much) at my grocery store, so it's time to hit up my mother-in-law for a trip to Costco.

  2. Isn't it great?!?! You can't beat $3.50!! I read that you can store it in the freezer for up to 6 months so I was sold instantly.

I cannot believe I love baking my own bread. I'm usually such a lazy person but this is my new favorite activity! I think I have it figured out so I have lots of plans with my 2 lbs of yeast :) When it's cheap I don't mind wasting it on the fun stuff!!

  3. I love getting yeast from Sam's club. It's so much cheaper.

You can freeze both your flour and your yeast. It's great!
