A week ago, Jason took the kids to the grocery store to grab some yogurt. As soon as they walked in, they saw Big Red just sitting there waiting for his daily fix of crying babies.
Leo yelled "SANTA" and went running toward him. He jumped on his lap and could have stayed there for the entire day if we let him.
Santa isn't something you can really explain to kids. They hear it in songs. They see countless commercials about Santa. They see movies or TV shows about him. Even though we never really talked to our kids about Santa, they just get it. But Leo figured it all out. He figured out that Santa's real name is St. Nicholas :)
We are in full Christmas mode around here. I have been busy making handmade gifts for as many family members as I can. I'm nowhere close to finished my list and may not succeed in all my handmade endeavors. But I had to take a brief break...
Because my kids kept begging for their own owls!
Elena, of course, requested a pink owl.
Just in case this owl lasts forever, she will have the year on there for nostalgia.
Then I had to take another brief break to make this gift card bag for a local friend. How stinkin' cute is this?! Here is the pattern for the bag: http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/little-gift-bag-2
(I added the crochet flower: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlWt0n0srfA)
I was procrastinating. It wasn't that I didn't want Leo to have an owl of his own. It's just that he was requesting a specific "look". And I didn't want to do it. Because it was going to look freaky and weird...
No matter how many times I asked him to give me the request, it never changed.
Blue body with stripes
Red head
Red eyes
Period.
Even the other owls are frightened by it.
I hate to admit that it is kind of growing on me...in that "runt of the hairless cat litter" kind of way.
I am a fan of the personalizing on the back. (The blue one is a gift.)
And he absolutely loves it.
On first look he screamed, "You made it for ME?! Look! He has 'Angry Eyes. Just in case'!!!!!! I love my owl Mom!!!!"
And now I'm going to hurry up and make an owl for Roman before he gets any wild ideas about designing it himself...
I love the picture of the other owls scared in a huddle. You have more talent in your little pinky...
ReplyDeleteMy in-laws just gave us a fancy dancy plywood Santa Claus in a fishing boat for our yard. That should take a little splaining! Until yesterday there was no Santa at our house and St. Nicholas had already come and gone.
ReplyDeleteThe red owl isn't so bad. I kinda like him!
