"What happened here today??"

My friend Paula posted this on facebook along with the following story:

A man came home from work and found his 3 children outside, still in their pyjamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn around garden, The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house and no sign of the dog, walking in the door, he found ...an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, the throw rug was against one wall, In the front room the TV was on loudly with the cartoon channel, the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pyjamas, reading a novel... She looked up at him, smiled and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked, 'What happened here today?' She again smiled and answered, 'You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world do I do all day?...

''Yes," was his incredulous reply..

She answered, 'Well, today I didn't do it.'

I saw the photo and immediately looked around at my own house and thought - "Well that's just a normal day around here!"  I do wish I had better discipline in cleaning up after my kids...

Leo pulled every pillow from the bedrooms to complete his fort.

But they are having so much fun together I can't tear it down to clean up!!

Oh C'MON!!  How cute are they this morning????

And a big thank you to Aunt Jeanette and Uncle Jeremiah for his favorite raptor hoodie :)

  1. Lisa, you NEVER clean up after them. Don't get into that rut! You sing that stupid Barney song about cleaning up and make them do it. Then you clean up their cleaning while they sleep ;)

  4. lol ok i heard that story about 10 years ago--it was funny then and still funny now. But i never saw that picture--thats funny.

i know it looks messy to you but what is behind all your pics is the fact that your kids are so creative with ordinary things and always look occupied and happy.

for years my house was in this state of permanance mess and I didn't see mess I saw happy kids. Overtime though and due to moving we ended up throwing out almost everything we had. Our house now is very stark and bland and boring and for the most part everything is locked up...lol. Its much cleaner overall but at the same time I think my kids are bored so much more. there is less to get into and less mess but also less to keep them creative and inspired and occupied. Its a trade off I guess. I would rather have happy occupied kids than a clean house myself.
