This week:
I made a sourdough starter from scratch. Then I overfed and killed it. So I began again. I also used my Christmas money to buy this beautiful Le Creuset loaf pan.
I received a kombucha scoby from a friend and I am currently on batch #3 of kombucha. Yummmmm. I even grew a baby and shared it with my sister-in-law.
That's my kombucha on the left and the scoby growing is on the right
The kids love their kombucha with soda water for bubbles!
I soaked and dehydrated pecans and cashews for "crispy nuts."
I remembered to thaw and then roasted a huge turkey. Batch #3 of broth is in the crockpot. But not just any old broth. The real stuff packed full of gelatin. My first gelatinous broth and I am proud of it.
This one I have to shout: I KEPT MY KITCHEN CLEAN!!! No seriously though. This is huge. Especially when I dirty no less than 10 pots and pans each and every day. No picture though since the countertops are covered in all of the above. But the dishes are clean!!! :)
I made double batches of these delicious soaked oatmeal muffins twice. Strawberry and cream cheese are the best!
This may sound silly, but I actually remembered to buy and actually prepare food for Roman at lunch and dinner! He only eats about 2-3 tablespoons of food a day so I usually just forget about it completely. But so far I have nailed it all week!
I am on Chapter 4 of the audible free Moby Dick download.
I am also half-way through The Miracle Detective.
And, perhaps the thing I'm most proud of: I worked out 5 of the last 7 days. BAM!
Jason bought me a gym membership for Christmas and I'm ecstatic. I absolutely LOVE working out. You wouldn't know it though...due to the complete lack of working out going one around here. But fitting it in with three small kids turned out to be harder for me than it was with only 1 or 2 kids. But a gym with daycare? All over it!
That is the gym "welcome" bag Jason gave to me first thing on Christmas morning.
The kids and I have to be up and out the door with Jason so I can have the car. The muffins turned out to be the easiest and quickest breakfast option for us. And I either do the group workouts at the gym or go for an hour walk in our neighborhood and listen to Moby Dick.
As a result of being able to workout, I have had the energy to accomplish all the other things in my life.
Except:
The laundry.
Unpacking from our trip to Granny and Papa's at Christmas.
Stop eating the Trader Joe's cookie butter my sister-in-law gave me.
Cleaning up the toy room
But that's what my minions are for, right??
I have been super busy recently and I'm loving this time of productivity. It all goes down the crapper in 4 days when Jason leaves for England! I'll be eating bon bons and spiking my milk with baileys all week.
I'm going to grab a spoonful of cookie butter while I watch Biggest Loser with my husband. Just keepin' in real!
Thank goodness you're still human! I was wondering with the first half of the post. You're doing great in 2013 with resolutions and improvements ... I wish I could say the same!
ReplyDeletei think i want to be you when i eventually grow up!
ReplyDeleteYay for working out!!! I know you are a beast once you get going, because we're twinsies that way. I have to admit that I had no idea what half of the food things you talked about were. I'll just stick to my store bought probably full of crap fruits and veggies and lean proteins, thankyouverymuch! Jason did awesome with that Christmas present.
ReplyDeleteLove Kombucha but way too chicken to try to make it myself! And, I think there is something about Turkey because that is the first broth of mine that turned out VERY gelatinous. My chiken broth has only come out mildly so.
ReplyDeleteGreat job with everything! I am totally impressed.
The Tyler library has audiobooks you can download via Overdrive, and put on an MP3 player. I'm listening to "Life if Pi" right now."
